She is often depicted with the veena/sitar (string instrument) symbolizing harmony, and seated on a white lotus, symbolizing purity and divine truth.

Saraswati is the Shakti, the power and the consort of Brahma, the creator. Hence, she is the mother of the entire creation. She represents power and intelligence from which the organized creation proceeds.
